Want to find blogs and other websites run by female gamers? Look no further than Iris’ Directory! The directory is an ever-growing collection of blogs, communities, organizations, and other tabletop and/or video game sites run by women.

In addition to giving sites more exposure, the directory aims to:

    • Promote the often overlooked voices of the women in the gaming community
    • Help female gamers connect with each other

If you’re a woman and you have a corner on the internet where you talk about games, please consider adding your site!

Iris’ forums are what forms our core community. The primary goal of the forums is to serve as a safe space for gamers to get together and discuss topics — such as sexism and racism — that they find they have a hard time broaching on more mainstream sites.

On the forum you can find:

    • Women of all walks of life who count gaming among their passions
    • Men interested in networking with women gamers and perhaps learning more about inclusive game design in the process
    • Anyone who has ever felt that they have been excluded from most games and/or gaming communities at large

If you have some free time, stop by and check out some of the current threads!

Cerise is Iris’s quarterly magazine that covers video games, tabletop games, and live action role-playing. Its features include industry news, spotlights of game developers and prominent voices in gamer communities, game reviews, and editorials. The magazine has an open submission policy for articles, art, and more.

Cerise was created to be a resource by and for women gamers and is dedicated to increasing the voices of underrepresented identities in the game development industries and in gamer communities. Although gender is the foremost focus of the magazine, it is dedicated to creating an inclusive space for individuals of all identities traditionally underrepresented in the mainstream and their allies.

One of the ways we here at Iris work towards our goal of getting women’s voices out there is by hosting a wide assortment of gaming blogs by and/or for women. We host both individual and group blogs with topics ranging from personal thoughts on gaming to critical analysis of the games, the industry, and the culture. For a full list of the blogs currently hosted on Iris, please see our directory of blogs.

If you’re interested in being part of Iris’ blogging community, go ahead and register for an account. Although the creation of new blogs is currently disabled that doesn’t mean you can’t participate! There are many blogs currently taking applications (see this forum post) and we’re always looking for volunteers (see the volunteering faq).

In addition to that, we’re currently Beta testing a custom installation of BuddyPress with the hope of creating a blogging community that allows subscribers to follow and connect with Iris’ bloggers and other staff.
